  Military Service	At the age of 15 years 10 months, he enlisted in Company K, 85th Ohio Cavalry, for three months and, was also in Company C, 88th Ohio. He was engaged in the pursuit of Morgan's guerrillas and in guarding rebel prisoners. He reenlisted in the 3rd Ohio Cavalry. He was in one battle where, though unknown to himself at the time, his older brother was among the rebel forces. He died in a hospital at Nashville, Tennessee, of typhoid fever.
