| Twonky-1953. The movie varied a lot from the story. The Twonky was a radio but the film chose to use a TV which was still brand new technology having been introduce just six years earlier. The technology needed to show what was described in the story wouldn't come into common use for a half a century so the effects are crude and clunky. While the story wasn't overly dark the movie was brightened up to the point it was almost a comedy. |

| Tyrannosaurus skeletal diagram. It was during Osborn's tenure that Barnum Brown, assistant curator of the American Museum of Natural History, discovered the first Tyrannosaurus skeleton. Previously only some teeth and vertebrae had been found. In total Brown ended up finding 5 T-Rex skeletons.
Osborn wrote the papers describing the finds and thus became the one to name the species. Tyrannosaurus is derived from Greek and means "Tyrant Lizard". Rex is Latin for "King".
This picture is from Osborn's work where he described the species. We now know tripod pose is anatomically incorrect. Also the hands had not been fully recovered so some guess work was done using the Allosaurus as a guide. While the Allosaurus had three fingers, Rex only had two.
This drawing was the basis for the silhouette on the "Jurassic Park" book jacket as well as the logo for the resulting movies. They did at least remove the extra finger. |

| UFO Declassification. The truth about UFOs was a reoccurring theme on the X-Files. Laurance Spelman Rockefeller established the UFO Disclosure Initiative and, pressed the Clinton White House to get the UFO case files declassified.
Mulder: Many think Laurence Rockefeller wasn't just another truth seeker, there could have been a more sinister motivation behind his quest to get the government to release UFO information. Certainly, there’s no doubt that the Rockefeller's constitute one of the world’s wealthiest and, most influential families on Earth. It's possible Laurence was the alien's ambassador. First comes an attempt to clean up the alien's public image in advance of the announcement of their presence. John Podesta has publicly stated that had Hillary been elected president she would have declassified UFO information.
Scully: Oh please. Laurence wasn't even a researcher he was just an advocate. Of course we know Hillary was a bastion of truth but, had the Clinton's wanted to declassify UFO files they had every opportunity to do it when Bill was president.
Ockham's razor tells us that the explanation that requires the least speculation is usually correct. The Clinton's didn't do anything with the UFO files because they couldn't figure out how to make a buck off from them.
Mulder: Oh no! What if she put those files on her personal server! They'd be gone forever!
Scully: Mulder, just drop it. They say she's killed more people than Alex Krycek. |

| US Navy P2B-1S Superfortress. On march 22, 1956 John was the test pilot of a U.S. Navy, Douglas D-558-II Skyrocket to be dropped from a Superfortress bomber re-purposed as a mothership. Problems developed with the rocket plane and John called "no drop".
Unfortunately at the same time the mothership developed a runaway engine. Protocol was that if the mothership experienced an emergency the test plane had to be dropped.
John was release to fend for himself. Immediately after he was dropped the propeller on the affected engine failed from overspeed and broke apart. Shrapnel tore through the adjacent engine and the fuselage of the mothership. Had John not been dropped he likely would have been killed by the debris.
Fortunately John and the pilots of the mothership, Stanley Paul Butchart and (future astronaut) Neil Alden Armstrong all made it safely back to the ground. |
