The Haarlem Archaeopteryx.
The Haarlem Archaeopteryx.
In 1970 Ostrom studied a long forgotten fossil that had been misidentified as a type of pterodactyl. He thought the fossil was an Archaeopteryx so he renamed the fossil the Haarlem Archaeopteryx as it belonged to the Teylers Museum in Haarlem, Netherland.

Ostrom began to argue that dinosaurs were not extinct and what remained of them now lived among us as birds. At the time this was a radical view that very few paleontologist gave any serious thought to.

In 2017 Christian Foth and Oliver Rauhut studied the fossil and found enough differences from the Archaeopteryx to declare it a separate species. They named it Ostromia in John's honor. It is so far the only fossil of it's species to have been found.

The Hive of the Averys.
The Hive of the Averys.
About 1656 Captain James Avery (1620-1700) built a house in the area that would eventually become Groton, Connecticut. The home became known as "The Hive of the Averys". It was occupied by Captain James's decedents for a stunning (proximate) 238 years! Sadly on July 20, 1894 a spark from a passing locomotive started a fire on it's roof and the home was destroyed.

The Last Temptation of Christ.
The Last Temptation of Christ.
While William began appearing in films in 1980 it was his staring roll as Jesus in "The Last Temptation Of Christ" that was considered his breakthrough roll.

The movie was fraught with controversy. It was banned in several major cities and the rental chain "Block Busters" refused to carry it. Critic Roger Ebert who was raised Catholic praised it as a film but, admitted it was blasphemous.

Dafoe said; "I still can't believe I was so brazen to think I could pull off the Jesus role. I later met Max von Sydow (the Christ of "The Greatest Story Ever Told") and he said, 'Willem, we are members of a very exclusive fraternity.' "

The drawing was originally scheduled for October 11, 1866. Because of high ticket demand it was delayed until January 21, 1867. 210,000 tickets were sold. The prize list grew three hundred and two prizes, with the opera house as the grand prize.

The winner chose to sell the building back to Crosby. He managed to raise enough money to pay off the debts he incurred building the opera house and still managed to retain ownership.

The Many Deaths of Bill Paxton.
The Many Deaths of Bill Paxton.
Bill is one of only two people to have gone up against and lost to the big three of sci-fi monsters; the Terminator, the Predator, and the Xenomorph from Alien. The other individual was Lance Henriksen. Bill was in Predator 2 where he played a detective who sacrificed himself so that others could escape. In Terminator he is credited as "blue haired punk". In Aliens his adlibbed line "game over man" has become one of the most iconic moments in the series.

Runtime 2 minutes 11 seconds. Edited safe for work!
