News:
Now in the library; "Genealogy of the Cooke and Cook family". New under the Moments in Time section: my "I Love Me Wall". (purely self-indulgent, I know.)
Notes:
Also known as Stephen Douglas Monument Park. The site was designated a Chicago Landmark on September 28, 1977.

Stephen A Douglas Grave Site. Stephen was buried near Lake Michigan on a 16' x 16' piece of land. Initially it surrounded by a simple wooden fence. Before long the fence had names carved in it from visitors from every state of the union.
Stephen A Douglas Monument. The simple grave was soon replaced by a monument that took 20 years to complete. A 46 foot tall column of white marble is topped off with a 10 foot tall bronze statue of the man who in life was just over 5 feet tall.
