  Military Service	In 1882 Richard Young graduated from West Point, 15th in his class. He went on to Columbia University Law School and graduated in 1884. He practiced as a military attorney until 1888, when he returned to Utah to open a private law practice. He reentered the Army as a captain during the Spanish-American War, and led the Utah Light Artillery in the Philippines. When the war ended, he was appointed as an Associate Justice of the U.S. Territory of the Philippines Supreme Court. He later returned to private legal practice, acting as attorney for the Idaho Sugar Company. During WWI, 1918 he was commissioned as a brigadier general. He led a U.S. infantry brigade in France. He died of appendicitis in 1919.
