  	In September 1675 during King Philip?s War Deerfield was attacked several times by the Indians. It was decided to evacuate Deerfield. Captain Thomas Lathrop?s company of soldiers were bringing loaded carts toward Northampton when they were ambushed at a spot since known as Bloody Brook. Joseph Gillett and Captain Lathrop were among the 64 settlers killed.
