In early life was a machinist in Chicopee Massachusetts but in 1854 he bought the estate at Elm Grove, Massachusetts, where he afterward lived, and where he carried on farming. He was musical, the leader of the Brigade Band of Springfield, Mass. His instrument was the "Kent" bugle, later changed to the cornet, when they first came into use. He was a man of genial nature and generous disposition. |
