A tanner by trade. In 1810 built the first tannery in Sheridan, New York (in partnership with his brother Windsor). He is also credited with building Sheridan's first, and only grist mill in 1807. In 1815 he built a 40 ton schooner, "Kingbird," which ran between Dunkirk and Buffalo, taking out lumber and bringing back merchandise, etc. He was part of a committee that traveled to Albany to lobby the Legislature to form the Town of Sheridan, New York. The first town meeting was held at the house of William Griswold, Tuesday, May 8, 1827. Haven was elected assessor. |
