Pemberton Mill Mass Grave. The Pemberton Mill was a factory in Lawrence, Massachusetts, which collapsed January 10, 1860. During the rescue efforts an oil lamp was knocked over. The fire quickly spread. Estimates of the dead vary from 90 to 145. It is still considered the worst industrial accident in Massachusetts history. Many of the dead could not be identified. They were buried in a mass grave at Bellevue Cemetery.
