    Occupation He was one of four in the first graduating class of Dartmouth Collage. Upon his fathers death he succeeded him and became the second president of that institution.

    "...I should be happy to do any thing, that might be consistent, in relation to an object, to which you refer as highly promotive of the morality & social happiness of mankind."

    "When I can comprehend matters clearly in an interview, or by writing, and can then be of any little service to our race...I will be truly happy to do every thing in my power to subserve so disinterested & virtuous an end."

    The Rollins Chapel at Dartmouth college was completed in 1885. It's stained glass windows were dedicated to presidents of the college. The records concerning the window dedicated to John have been lost but, it is assumed that the window depicts Saint Peter.
