PONTIAC - Helen G. Ahrens, 96, of Pontiac and lifelong resident of Odell, died at 10:30 p.m. Thursday (March 17, 2011) at ASTA Care Center, Pontiac.
Her funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul Catholic Church, Odell, with the Rev. David Sabel officiating. Burial will be at St. Paul Catholic Cemetery, Odell. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Duffy-Baier-Snedecor Funeral Home, Odell. Memorial gifts may be made to St. Paul Catholic Grade School or St. Paul Catholic Church, Odell.
She was born Feb. 14, 1915, in El Paso, a daughter of Jesse and Gertrude (Wernsman) Everett. She married Francis Ahrens on July 25, 1938. He died Feb. 5, 1996.
She is survived by two sons, James (Kathleen) Ahrens, Cascade, Mont., and Stephen (Linda) Ahrens, Odell; three daughters, Patricia (Bernie) Langheim, Salem, Va.; Mary Anne (Larry) Gleason, Pontiac; and Judith (Lee) Weber, Pontiac; 12 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and three sisters.
She was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Odell, and was a homemaker.
She was a member of Catholic Daughters of Odell, Odell Historical Society, Catholic Circle and the Fun Timers group, Pontiac. She was educated at St. Mary?s Grade School, Pontiac, and was a graduate of Pontiac High School.
Helen loved to knit lap robes and booties for other ASTA Care residents, and she was a lifelong Cubs fan.
