See & Bassett. Elliott See and Charles Bassett were chosen as the primary crew for Gemini IX-A. It would have been their first space flight. |
|
NASA 901. On February 28, 1966, See and Bassett flew from Ellington Field, Texas to Saint Louis, Missouri in a T-38 training jet. They were planning to train in the rendezvous simulator at the McDonnell-Douglas facility. Due to poor weather they came in too far down the runway to attempt a landing. See turned intending to make another approach. Unfortunately they were too low and the plane struck McDonnell Building 101, where technicians were working on the spacecraft See and Bassett were scheduled to fly. Both pilots were killed. |
