    Biographical Information He began training and making a living as a tailor. Latter he opened a tavern. In 16 Dec 1816 it was lost in a fire. Due to the financial setback he moved to Louisiana then Texas.

    At the time relations between the territory of Texas and the Mexican government were poor and deteriorating further. On 20 Jun 1832 Asa joined a number of Texas politicians in declaring their intention if necessary engage in military action to insure the independence of Texas. He served as Commissary to the Army during the was between Texas and Mexico. He came to be a very successful businessman and land owner. At the time he owned several slaves but latter in his life signed several anti-slavery petitions.

    In 1835 he was elected Alcalde of Brazoria County. In 1836 as one of the Representatives of Brazoria he signed the Texas Declaration of Independence.

    A monument was erected by the state of Texas at the burial site in 1936, and Brigham's remains were removed to a site in Washington-on-the-Brazos State Historic Site sometime later.
