- Some records indicate George was born in 1631. The Edmund West, comp.. Family Data Collection has his birth in 1643. This is more likely as his parents recorded marriage date is 1637 and it is highly unlikely that in his time he could have lived to the age of 100 years.
It is unclear wether he came from England or from Ireland, however he arrived in Massachusetts in the 1640's or 1650's. On 19 Apr 1669 George bought land from John Clarke. Where the city of Westerly, Rhode Island is now located. In 1704 he owned 200 acres of land. The road that led there is still knowen as "Lamphere Road". On 17 May 1671 George took the Oath of Allegiance to Rhode Island. This is recorded in "New England Families" by Cutler, where it is also reported that he was baptized in 2 Mar 1678, but his wife became faint-hearted and came back out of the water "un baptized." On 25 Apr 1727 the town divided his land among his children as he was considered unable to manage his affairs at this time.
