Long Grove Bridge. Long Grove, Illinois is home to a historic bridge. It is known locally as "the covered bridge" but, it is not. It is a steel truss bridge built in 1906. It was listed on the National Historic Register, June 11, 2018. Robert was responsible for having the wooden cover built over the bridge in 1973. Some sources claim this was to protect the bridge. That really doesn't stand up to scrutiny and it's more likely it was done to make the bridge look historic. As of 2021 the bridge cover has been hit and damaged 14 times. |
