He organized Kaiser Permanente health care for his workers and their families. He partnered to form the Kaiser-Frazer automobile company and, formed Kaiser Motors. |

Liberty Ship. With WWII came a desperate need for cargo ships. Henry Kiser's company came up with the design for the EC2 (Emergency Cargo) class of ships. They were thought of as "ugly ducklings" so they were given the name "Liberty Ship" to counter that impression. Between 1941 and 1945, 18 shipyards, either Kaiser’s or using Kaiser’s shipbuilding techniques, built 2,751 Liberty ships. This makes it the largest class of ships ever built. Typical construction time was about 42 days but one was built in 4 days, 15 hours, and 29 minutes as a publicity stunt. |

Name That Car. In 1945 Henry founded the Kaiser-Frazer Corporation along with Joseph W. Frazer. In 1953 it was renamed Kaiser Motors. In February 1950 at the Chicago Automobile Show the introduced a new low priced car presented only as “The Red Car”. A contest was held to name the car. Note that the badge on the car in the photo says; "Name The Car". |

Henry J Badge. The winning name was "Henry J". It had a strong start but didn't last long as car buyers at the time were not interested in basic transportation. |
