Occupation Henry was an industrialist who became known as the father of modern American shipbuilding. He was involved in the construction industry; his company was one of the companies that built Hoover Dam. He established the Kaiser Shipyards, which built Liberty ships during World War II. He formed Kaiser Aluminum and Kaiser Steel. He organized Kaiser Permanente health care for his workers and their families. He partnered to form the Kaiser-Frazer automobile company and, formed Kaiser Motors.

With WWII came a desperate need for cargo ships. Henry Kiser's company came up with the design for the EC2 (Emergency Cargo) class of ships. They were thought of as "ugly ducklings" so they were given the name "Liberty Ship" to counter that impression. Between 1941 and 1945, 18 shipyards, either Kaiser’s or using Kaiser’s shipbuilding techniques, built 2,751 Liberty ships. This makes it the largest class of ships ever built. Typical construction time was about 42 days but one was built in 4 days, 15 hours, and 29 minutes as a publicity stunt.

The winning name was "Henry J". It had a strong start but didn't last long as car buyers at the time were not interested in basic transportation.

While the car had limited commercial success the car's light weight and strong frame made it a favorite of hot rodders.
