Arrived on the James, June 3, 1635.
On April 5, 1635 the James as part of a fleet of 5 ships, set sail for the New World with just over 100 passengers. As they approached New England, a hurricane struck. The James with her sails shredded, managed to make it to Boston Harbor.
The Angel Gabriel was wrecked off the coast of Maine but, only after the passengers disembarked. The smaller, faster ships, the Mary, the Bess and, the Diligence outran the storm, and landed in Newfoundland on August 15, 1635. All of the passengers survived. |
