From the Groton Clan book; "Called "High Rock Place," and situated at the head of the Eastern Point and lower Poquonock Road. Mr. Thomas purchased this land in 1805 of Park William Avery, being the southern portion of the farm known as "Birch Plains" and named it from the ledge on the rise of ground at the north of the farm."
