  	He Assisted in caring for the wounded after the Fort Griswold Massacre. He was captain of the 5th company, 1st regiment, Onondaga militia, 1801, and resigned in 1805.
  		The Fort Griswold Massacre (17) The fort Griswold Battle was one of the last of the American Revolution. It occurred September 6, 1781 in a fort by the town of Groton, Connecticut. Eighty-eight brave men lost their lives. Most of them were slaughtered after the fort was surrendered. It was particularly costly to the Avery family which took a huge blow.
