    Swan Ponds is the plantation owned by Waightstill Avery. At it's peak it was 12,000 acres. Avery would leave for the day to attens to business at his law office while his slaves ran the plantation.

    The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.

    Avery was challenged to a duel by (future president) Andrew Jackson. The two men intentionally missed the other while firing, and they left friends.
