    This tankard believed to have belonged to Peter Browne is on Display at the Pilgrim Hall Museum in Plymouth. It is constructed similar to a barrel with oak staves and birch strapping which has been determined to have come from the Baltic Region (Northern Europe).

    Shortly after arriving the pilgrims began laying out First Street. Later it became known as Great Street and Broad Street. In 1823 it was named Leyden Street which is the name that survives today. It is considered to be oldest continuously inhabited street in the thirteen colonies of British North America. Peter owned a lot on this street.

    As a single man of about 25, and possibly due to an apprenticeship, he boarded the Mayflower with the Mullins family. This relationship ended with the death of William Mullins, his wife Alice and son Joseph soon after arrival in the New World.

    The Mayflower Compact was the first governing document of Plymouth Colony. Thomas Rogers was one of the signers. His son who made the trip with him was a minor so he did not sign it. Likewise Francis Cooke signed it but, his son who accompanied him was a minor. Peter Browne was also a signer.

      In 1633 there was a smallpox epidemic. Peter may have been one of it's victims.
