    Occupation William attended public school. Upon graduation he went to a college prep school, the Leicester Academy. While attending Leichester he would walk home a distance of twelve miles once every week. He attended Harvard College. He was a diligent student of good rank and won various appointments at exhibitions and commencement. He graduated with the class of 1829. He began to read law with the Honorable George Morey, of Boston MA. He was admitted to the bar in 1832. He was admitted to practice in the United States Supreme Court on motion of Daniel Weber. He was representative to the general court in 1834 through 1836, again in 1841 and 1849. He was elected state senator in 1866. He delivered the centennial Address at Grafton MA 29 Apr 1835. He was appointed by Governor Everett in 1836 to compile and edit the laws of Plymouth colony which were published later that year. He was against slavery when anti-slavery men were unpopular. He was one of the founders of the Republican party. He resided on the Brigham family homestead during the summers. He was fond of nature and agriculture and frequently addressed agricultural societies. The literary community held him in high regard. He contributed to book reviews and other articles in the "North American Review" and the "Christian Examiner". He was very knowledgeable on the topic of early history of Massachusetts. He was a member of the Massachusetts Historical Society. He delivered a notable lecture to the Lowell Institution 19 Jan 1869. The topic was "New Plymouth and it's Relations to Massachusetts, and it's Early History. It was published by the Massachusetts Historical Society in a volume called "Massachusetts ad Its Early History", a highly credible work of research and insight. He was on the verge of retirement when he was struck with a fatal illness.
