On this date Julius Morton founded Arbor Day. In 1855 his home state of Nebraska was the first state to make it a legal holiday moving the date to April 22nd to honor Julius's birthday. Eventually all 50 states made Arbor Day a holiday. In 1970 President Richard Nixon declared the last Friday in April National Arbor Day. |
