  	She started an escort service named Cachet, which existed in New York City from 1979 to 1984. In October 1984 her escort service was shut down, and she was charged with promoting prostitution. The name 'Mayflower Madam' was coined by a New York Post reporter, Peter Fearon, who wrote of her families connection to Mayflower passengers. She pleaded guilty to promoting prostitution in return for a $5,000 fine, no prison sentence and the right to keep her profits and to keep her client list secret.
