Occupation Dr. Brigham graduated from Harvard Medical School in 1865, and after serving two years as Acting Assistant Surgeon, U. S. N.{1863-1865), settled in his native town, where he continued to reside, one of its most beloved and useful citizens. His father had been known as " The Doctor of Shrewsbury," which applied with equal force to the son. Not only Shrewsbury, but all surrounding towns looked to him for health when ill. Probably no physician in central Massachusetts was so often sought in consultation; none have been more universally mourned. He was long conspicuous in the Massachusetts Medical Society and repeatedly at the head of the Worcester District Medical Society, always having been a close student. Without political aspirations, his opinions were sought, irrespective of party lines, upon all local improvements; chiefly to his influence the town owed its public library; to all the needy, he was a generous friend. His home, with its beautiful old-fashioned furnishings, was charming, and none who ever visited there will forget it or the cordial greeting of the master of the house.
