  Colby Phonograph (Colby, Wis.) 8 August 1918 At 9 o'clock last Friday morning, Mrs. Johanna Strathmann, wife of Fred Strathmann, of the town of Hull, Marathon Co., Wis., wife of Fred Strathmann, passed away, aged 56 years, 1 month and 23 days. For the past four years she has been a sufferer from tuberculosis, but it was not until the week before she died that the dread disease assumed the acute stage. Johanna Sophia Nagel was the daughter of Matthew and Charlotte Nagel and was born at Hanover, Germany, June 9, 1862. It was there she spent her girlhood and on Sept. 7, 1887, was united in marriage with Fred Strathmann. The following year they came to America, coming almost direct to Colby, Wis., which has been her home ever since. She was a woman of quiet disposition and was very much loved and respected among her neighbors and friends. During her residence she experienced some hard times, as did others who came in the early days to make a home in the wilderness. Mrs. Strathmann was the mother of six children, four of who are now living, three sons and one daughter. They are William, who is in the U. S. Army and located at Ft. Riley, Kansas, Herman H. of this city, and Fred and Doris at home. Besides her immediate family, she leaves to mourn her loss her aged mother, two sisters, Mrs. Johanna Nagel of the town of Hull, and Mrs. Mary Pedjinski of Milwaukee, Claus and Ernest of the town of Hull. The funeral was held at the M. E. Church in this city at 2 p.m. Monday, the Rev. A. L. Scherry officiating. The remains were laid to rest in the Colby Cemetery. Those from out of town attending the funeral were William of Ft. Riley, Kansas, Mrs. Mary Pedjinski of Milwaukee, Richard Nagel of Meadowlands, and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Lindner of Hewitt.
