He was educated in the public schools and Mount Pleasant Academy, Amherst Massachusetts. In 1836 he went to Chicopee, Massachusetts where he was connected with the Dwight Manufacturing company as superintendent for 32 years. He was actively interested in public affairs and as a member of the Lyceum Lecture Committee made the acquaintance of such men as Horace Mann, Horace Creeley, Knierson, and Beecher. He was an ardent abolitionist. he went to Ludlow as agent of the Ludlow manufacturing Company, in which position he remained continuously till 1887, when he retired. By virtue of his position and also because of his strong and benevolent qualities, Mr. Brigham was one of the most prominent men of Ludlow His influence was felt in many directions. He was a man of liberal. spirit, carrying on large charities in quiet, modest ways. He was a deep student and he traveled much of this country and Europe. He was a 32nd degree Mason, a member of Chicopee Lodge and unity Chapter. Brigham Lodge of Ludlow is named for him and much of its success is due lo his efforts. He was also a member of Springfield Commandery Knights Templar, and was for many years a director of The Masonic Mutual Insurance Company.
