Occupation |
Tyler sought, and failed to find his fortune in the first California Gold Rush. He decided to return home. The cheapest way to do so was by sea. He boarded a ship at San Francisco. The seas were rough and he was forced to remain in his bunk which as all beds were in the day quite uncomfortable. To take his mind off the conditions and hold sea sickness at bay he laid there and worked out the design for the first spring mattress. |
