| Ottawa IL Lincoln-Douglas. Ottawa IL was the site of the first Lincoln-Douglas debate on 21 April 1858 when the two men were running for Senator. A fountain with statues of the two men now occupies the spot of the debate in Ottawa's Washington Park. Lincoln was considered the winner of this debate but, he lost the election. |
