Author's Apology.
Author's Apology.
In today's society a disaster often results in a race to profit off from it. In 1831 Lemuel Barrows Eldredge was apparently pained by the process and felt the need to begin the book with an apology and an explanation as to why he did it. The apology is followed by a list of Vermont's prominent citizens who swear their support of him and his book.

Bank of Washtenaw.
Bank of Washtenaw.
In the 1830's the economy of the territory of Michigan was flying high due to largely to the sale of land. In 1835 a group of men got together and formed the Bank of Washtenaw in Ann Arbor. Unfortunately in 1836 the United States banking system collapsed causing a panic. The underfunded bank shut down as faster than it went up. The building stood empty for almost a decade before it was converted to a private residence. Today it still stands and is used as commercial property.
